Project Overview
This project took place at a property in Southbourne, Bournemouth, where the client required a natural privacy barrier to separate their garden from a neighbouring property. The solution needed to be effective year-round while adding an appealing element to the existing landscape. Pleached trees were ideal for meeting the client’s privacy needs in Southbourne.

Objective
The aim was to plant pleached trees along the boundary to create a visual shield, offering consistent privacy throughout the year. The chosen trees had to be tidy and upright, ensuring that they provided privacy without overwhelming the garden.

Plant Selection
For this project, Photinia x fraseri ‘Red Robin’ pleached trees were selected due to their ability to offer privacy without overly shading the garden:

  • Photinia x fraseri ‘Red Robin’ Pleached Trees: Three pleached trees, each 150cm in width, were planted along the boundary to create a screen that would be effective year-round. These trees are known for their glossy evergreen leaves and the striking red color of new growth, which provides visual interest as well as practical screening. The pleached form allows the trees to maintain a neat, upright shape, ensuring that the garden remains open to light while still providing a privacy barrier.
